Survivor Fund
The Survivor Fund dedicates $100,000 to Black folks who have
financial needs due to experiencing patriarchal violence.
Overview
The issue of sexual violence, especially against Black women and Black TGNCI (transgender, gender nonconforming, and intersex) individuals, is a pervasive and systemic problem. Survivors and advocates call for sustained attention to data and persistent efforts against the rollback of hard-won gains. Despite the impact of the "me too" movement, many survivors still do not report assaults due to mistrust in a system that consistently fails them, fear of retaliation, and concerns about the criminal legal system's history of racism. Black survivors, in particular, face additional disbelief and systemic barriers, creating a dire need for community-based, non-carceral solutions.
Survivor Society, a U.S.-based Black and survivor-led movement incubator, hosts this grant program. Our mission is to interrupt the culture of silence, inconvenience, enablement, and discomfort that interferes with progressive and radical organizations' ability to adopt ending sexual violence as a core political tenet and survivor justice embodied as a cultural practice. We cultivate leadership, well-being, political development, radical experiments, and relationships among those most impacted by sexual violence. This grant initiative dedicates $100,000 towards direct support to Black folks who have experienced patriarchal violence, aligning with our commitment to building community-based violence prevention and intervention strategies, emphasizing deep investment in Black communities and divestment from policing. Most importantly, we seek a movement that embraces survivor justice, perspectives, and calls to action.
