What We Do

Survivor Society is a community of Black people who are eager for sexual violence to end. We are organizers, activists, storytellers, teachers, healing practitioners, volunteers, and direct service providers. What binds us a belief that sexual violence is perpetrated and sustained by systemic and structural oppression (policies, cultural norms, institutional practices, and taught behavior); therefore requiring the complete restructuring of systems and cultural norms within our society to truly end.

At Survivor Society, we firmly believe that a world free of sexual harm is possible— with scalable accountability models rooted in healing and transformation. Our optimism  is built and tempered by a deep assessment of our freedom movements, and the recognition that Black people have continued to make the seemingly impossible possible before.

Our

Lane

We are focused on Movement Organizations.

There is no radical transformation of society without the existence of progressive and radical movement organizations. The extent of our imagination becomes the new realities for our people.

In the U.S.A, it is especially critical that movement organizations focused on Black liberation adopt survivor justice into their vision, values and politics, political frameworks and organizing approaches.

Our work as Survivor Society is to resource up movement organizations and individuals , so that we can be braver and more informed champions for survivor justice within our work. We are connecting courageous individuals to each other, investing in our collective wellness, growing skills, and challenging all movement sectors to address the needs and recognize the power of survivors of sexual violence.

Welcome to Project Phoenix.

  • We are building an in-person and digital community amongst Black movement leaders interested in deepening our commitment to a radical version of survivor justice, and challenging our organizations to do the same.

We are supporting each other, deliberating the political terrain, and growing our skills & knowledge in service of a radical version of survivor justice.

And to be clear- anyone can be a worker for survivor justice regardless of movement sector and role.

  • We provide direct support to individuals and organizations seeking to bring survivor justice to their movement home.

We have designed creative activities, activations, and political art that invites movement leaders into low-risk environments geared towards imagining what the antithesis of silenc and apathy towards survivor justice can be.

  • We are creatang an accessible, scalable,  and trauma informed survivor justice framework that social justice movement organizations can adopt. It will include definitions, a vision,  adaptable cultural and political practices,  and tools for easy application

  • Ending sexual violence and mitigating the long-term impacts will require a deep investment in research to understand the scale of the problem, the root causes, and the viable solutions to bring sexual violence to a halt.
